An Investigation of Electrochemical Dechlorination of Wrought Iron Specimens from the Marine Environment

The research shows the benefits provided by use of electrochemical treatment, with application impressed current combining a porous medium for dechlorination large iron structures removed and/or located in marine environment. Considering previous work paddle wheel shipwreck “Patris”, Aegean Sea, this study aims to determine optimum parameters amount density, time and stimulate chloride ion diffusion into an alkaline solution. Specimens wrought coming from were electrochemically treated efficiency method was verified determination concentration removal using selective electrode. Samples corrosion products before after treatment analyzed content SEM-EDX analysis. results found that changing every 24 h replenished solution stainless steel mesh is best approach specimens. This method, economical fast, can be applied conservation situ, near environment less waste than traditional dehlorination methods.
